Erika Kates, Ph.D., investigated policies and data affecting women's economic wellbeing to better understand why some groups of women in Massachusetts experience growing and persistent poverty. Specifically, this policy brief, published in May 2009, sought to understand the problems low-income women, especially single parents, face in accessing higher education in Massachusetts.
